The step away from All White
Starting with the bride, the idea behind wearing white from head to toe is being tossed out by our modern day brides. There are brides that still opt for the white dress but some are now selecting white dresses with a pop of colour in them such as gold or black. We have also noticed that brides now wear shoes to match the colors of their wedding and encourage their bridesmaids to do the same. We must also make mention to the perfect white dress. Brides are adding more personality into their wedding dress choices, no longer are they obsessed with being perfect in white, but instead opting for outstanding colours such as red, pink or black. A few brides are breaking this tradition by wearing their favorite colors for a more unique look that would shock your guests, especially the older crowd. The goal is to make you feel comfortable, so if white just isn't your color or you saw a dress you fell in love with that doesn’t fall within the traditional law then go for it, remember it's your day, wear what makes you feel beautiful.
Headpiece vs Veil
The veil, we are seeing less of these at our weddings, brides are now ditching the veil for a headpiece, tiara or floral bans. We understand you think it's pretty and in most cases they add to the suspense leading up to the kiss and your big reveal, but at an outdoor wedding a long flowy veil may be a put challenging because of the wind and that could generate some awkward pictures. The main focus is you, walking down that aisle, why not let people see your face, your makeup took forever so you need to show it off.
Bridal Party Wear
Moving on to your wedding party, when choosing your bridal party wear, who says they must stick to tradition. The wedding parties are starting their own trends and even having themes for the big day. At one wedding, the couple went with the theme, East meets West. The groomsmen were in traditional navy blue suits and the bridesmaids stood out in traditional saris. The bride's personality was funky and unique, so she came up with the idea to have her squad step out in full Indian wear instead of the basic bridesmaid dresses. Another at another wedding, the groom used his five sisters as his groomswomen. These five fantastic ladies wore tuxedos with heels, the first times we've ever seen this locally. Having an Oriental themed wedding? Why not let the bridesmaids wear Kimonos, as we have seen done before.
Marching past the Wedding March
Walking down the aisle to the old school "Wedding March" or as some may know it, "Here comes the bride", I think we only see that in movies now. Be outrageous, pick your favorite feel good song to walk down the aisle to, even better pick your husband's favorite song, it would be a shock to all and a nice surprise for your spouse. Make sure it would be appropriate of course, be outrageous, but respect religious boundaries if you are sticking to the tradition of getting married in a church.
Same venue
Outdoor weddings are trending, having your wedding and reception at the same venue is also popular, though commencing your marriage in church is a great way to start, you don't have to stick to this. Find out from your desired officiant if he can ordain the marriage at another venue other than a place of worship. Beach weddings are fun and more casual for you and your guests, again focusing on your personalities. If you feel comfortable outdoors then pick a spot you're happy with and put things in place to have the perfect day there. Don't limit yourself you can create your own traditions.
Cupcakes/mini cakes/cake pops
The traditional wedding cake was a two or three tiered cake made of fruit cake or black cake but now cake decorators are stepping up their game, making the wedding cake fun and incorporating the couple's uniqueness in the design. Options now include cake pops, mini cakes, cupcake towers! Your guests can also join in and enjoy your these cake variations, as they are much easier to serve than to cut up 200 slices of cake to share on the spot.
Photo Booth
Another hot trend are photo booths, this eliminates the pressure of searching for the perfect wedding favor and your guests would have something fun to do while you're at your photo shoot. Amber Media Productions can provide instant photos that can be personalized, a great token to remember your special day. A picture can tell a thousand words and it's something your guests can enjoy forever.
Just to emphasize the day you chose to get married, it's yours, so you and your spouse can do whatever you like, whatever suits you best, whatever is a direct reflection of your relationship and you as an individual.
